SAWSTON COMMUNITY FUN RUN CHALLENGE EVENT
Sawston Village College Minibus Appeal, Cambridge Aid and Sawston Sports Centre swimming pool hoist have been chosen as the main beneficiaries of the 2020 Sawston Fun Run event, which takes place on Sunday 4th October.
Jonathan Russell, Principal of SVC, said he is delighted that the Sawston Fun Run will be raising funds to support the purchase of a new minibus. In the 90th year of the College, it is fitting that the community will come together to benefit the current and next generation of Sawston pupils. Education is far broader than academic success and the new minibus will ensure young people have access to a diverse range of opportunities including sports fixtures, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, careers events, inter-school competitions, STEM activities and inspiring Arts trips.
Sawston Sports Centre are extremely pleased that they will also benefit from the 2020 event. The new hoist for the swimming pool will be suitable for both adults and children to use, ensuring that access is made available to all.
In addition this year’s funds will also go to support the following groups and charities in Sawston and the surrounding villages:
Sawston Nursery: Improvements to garden area.
Stapleford Primary School: Outdoor ‘Arbour’ seating den.
Duxford Youth Club: Renew and add to existing resources.
Sawston Let’s Run Girls: Leadership courses

Sawston Toy Library: Various resources and materials.
Sawston Army Cadets: STEM kits.

Cambridge Aid is a local charity that works in partnership with other worthwhile organisations in the area supporting individuals and families who find themselves in crisis situations and in need of help.
Co-ordinator of the 2020 organising committee Honorary Rotarian Gerry Holloway said recently that "Many people in the community continue to make this event a big success by supporting us as marshals, manning water stations and in many other ways. We would like to thank everyone, especially the staff of The Cambridge Building Society and other sponsors and businesses and those in Sawston who contribute in any way.
